World-Class Memory Care at The Virginian

At The Virginian, one of the leading senior living communities in Northern Virginia, we’ve developed a new approach to caring for our cognitively-impaired residents.

We’re taking memory care within assisted living in Fairfax, VA to the next level with our innovative Heartfelt CONNECTIONS - A Memory Care Program®. This program is designed to harness the retained abilities of residents rather than focus on the ones they’ve lost. It is a therapeutically designed program that focuses on likes/dislikes, family and past interests, occupations, and other factors that allow our team members to know and uniquely understand each resident.

Individualized Care

As part of Heartfelt CONNECTIONS, and as one of the premier senior assisted living facilities in Northern Virginia, our specially trained staff seek to learn every detail about our residents. This includes the use of LifeBio™, involving residents, loved ones, and staff in an evidence-based approach to creating an autobiography for each resident, and is shown to reduce loneliness, and increase social connectedness, feelings of happiness, and overall wellbeing.

By focusing on the health, social, and emotional needs of each resident, we can develop the high-quality, personalized care and daily activities they need and deserve.

Intentional Design

Every aspect of our community has been designed with the varying stages of memory loss in mind, including color-coded cueing, wayfinding “Neighborhoods,” life skill stations, personalized memory boxes, interactive artwork, a private beauty salon, and a dual-themed reminiscence courtyard allowing residents to “relax in the backyard” or “walk in the park,” all within a secured setting.

State-of-the-art technology includes circadian lighting to assist residents in achieving peaceful days and restful nights. For fun, OBIE is an award-winning video gaming system that can be played through simple hand motion, with games scientifically designed for individuals at all levels of memory care.
